An AI tutor built for South African learners
AlignWellz is an AI learning companion that helps children understand what they're learning, practise it and improve — while parents can see how it's going. It's designed around the South African school year and the CAPS curriculum.
Who it's for
AlignWellz is for parents of learners from Grade R to Grade 12 — in public school, private school or homeschooling — who want their child to have patient, on-demand help with schoolwork. It suits children who need a hand with homework, want extra practice, are preparing for tests and exams, or simply feel more comfortable asking a question privately than in front of the class. For younger learners we recommend a parent sits alongside.
The problem it solves
Homework time is hard to get right. Parents aren't always able to explain a topic the way the teacher did, tutors have limited hours, and many children hold back from asking questions because they're worried about looking silly. An AI tutor is available whenever your child is working, never loses patience, and will explain the same idea in a different way as many times as needed. Read more in our guides on helping with homework without doing it for them and helping your child with maths at home.
What your child can do
How the tutor teaches
The goal is understanding, not just answers. The tutor guides first, gives hints, lets your child attempt the step, gives feedback, explains again if they are still stuck, and then has them practise. If your child says they don't understand, it doesn't just repeat itself — it tries simpler language, a real-world example or a step-by-step breakdown, and checks whether an earlier idea is missing. It keeps answers short and suited to your child's grade, remembers what you've discussed in the conversation so your child doesn't have to repeat themselves, and finishes with a small, concrete next step.
Subjects covered
AlignWellz is for the whole school day, not one subject. The subjects follow the national rules for the phase your child is in:
- Foundation Phase (Grades R–3)
- Home Language, First Additional Language, Mathematics, Life Skills (Grade R has no First Additional Language).
- Intermediate Phase (Grades 4–6)
- Home Language, First Additional Language, Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology, Social Sciences, Life Skills.
- Senior Phase (Grades 7–9)
- Home Language, First Additional Language, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Technology, Economic and Management Sciences, Life Orientation, Creative Arts.
- FET Phase (Grades 10–12)
- Two languages, Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, Life Orientation and at least three electives chosen from 35 subjects.
Your child tells the tutor which subject (and, where we have the CAPS topics, which term and topic) they are working on, and the tutor switches when they switch. Mathematics also has adaptive practice on selected Grade 8 topics. See the subjects page for exactly what is available, or browse the subjects for every grade.
What parents can see
Parents get progress graphs, a subject overview, a monthly activity calendar and daily goal tracking, and past conversations are kept so you can look back at what your child asked. Learn more on the parent dashboard page.
Safety, privacy and honesty
Accounts are created and controlled by a parent. If a child mentions being in danger or wanting to hurt themselves, the tutor doesn't carry on as normal — it encourages them to talk to a parent, teacher or another adult they trust. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and who helps us run the service under South Africa's POPIA. To be clear about limits: AI can make mistakes, AlignWellz does not replace a teacher, and we can't promise any particular academic result. If you're weighing up AI tutors, our checklist for judging any AI tutor may help.
How to get started

Frequently asked questions
Is AlignWellz CAPS-aligned?
AlignWellz is built for South African learners. The subjects for each grade follow the Department of Basic Education's national policy, and the topics for each term are read from the official CAPS documents. We show a topic list only where we have verified it against the CAPS document for that grade and subject, and link the official document where we haven't. CAPS is the national framework and schools teach in their own order, so the tutor always puts your child's own worksheets, homework and textbooks first.
Which grades does it cover?
Grade R to Grade 12. When you add your child you choose their grade and then the subjects and languages they take, following the national rules for that phase.
Does it work in Afrikaans?
Yes. You can choose English or Afrikaans for your child, and the tutor responds primarily in that language, following your child if they switch.
Does the voice feature need anything special?
It needs a device with a microphone and a browser that supports speech recognition (current Chrome and Edge do). Typing always works as an alternative.
Can the AI make mistakes?
Yes, like all AI. It is a learning aid that works best alongside your child's teacher and textbook, and it is not a replacement for either. Check important answers against class notes.
How much does it cost?
There is a 7-day free trial with no credit card required. After that you can choose a monthly or yearly plan — see the pricing page for the current prices.
