Free Heritage Patterns and Symmetry Activity Book for Grade 2

Geometric patterns inspired by beadwork, baskets and painted walls. Children finish dotted patterns, continue a bead pattern, draw the other half of a shape across a mirror line, draw lines of symmetry and decide which shapes have one, then design a pattern border of their own.

Ideas for using Heritage Patterns and Symmetry together

  • Fold a piece of paper in half to test whether a shape has a line of symmetry.
  • Look for patterns in clothes, baskets, tiles and walls and describe how they repeat.
  • Use a ruler for the line-of-symmetry pages and a mirror to check your work.
